Stand at the entrance and notice where your eye naturally travels. Keep that route free of tall storage, oversized lamps, and furniture corners. A clear view toward a window or the far wall makes the room feel deeper before anything is removed.
Start with the seats and surfaces the room genuinely needs. A compact table that supports daily use is more useful than several occasional pieces competing for floor space. Leave a little air around the largest objects so their shapes remain easy to read.
Low storage, baskets, and furniture with visible floor beneath them reduce visual weight. Gather small necessities into a few deliberate zones instead of spreading them across every surface. The room will still feel lived in, just less fragmented.
